Chiropractors talk a lot about subluxations. A subluxation [suhb-luhk-sey-shuhn] is when your spinal bones (vertebrae) move out of alignment due to trauma or everyday repetitive stresses. You may not even feel it, but it may still be there. This can put pressure on or irritate the spinal nerves that come out between each vertebra. It then causes nerve dysfunction and interference of signals sent over those nerves to different parts of your body.
How does this affect YOU?
Your nervous system controls and coordinates all of your bodily functions. If signals traveling over our nerves are interfered with, altered or decreased nerve messages will be sent to your body. This doesn’t allow your body to function to the best of its ability- at 100%!
Chiropractic care realigns your spine and helps your body clear the way for your nervous system to send signals between your brain and your body again!
Why should you be checked by a chiropractor even when you’re NOT in pain?
After years of stress to your spine, pain is usually the last thing that results from dysfunction and trauma. So when your pain disappears, it doesn’t mean the cause of your problem has since the problem has taken so long to manifest itself.
Subluxations lead to overall body dysfunction and in their later stages may cause pain. Few things as complicated as your body can be “fixed” and then ignored. That’s why your chiropractic doctor may recommend a schedule of regular chiropractic checkups. Just like maintaining your teeth, your car, your family, or your faith, maintaining the integrity of your nervous system and your health requires an ongoing investment!
